Key Points
- Secretory IgA is a neutralizing antibody that is found in all of your secretory fluids (tears, saliva, semen, ...) that doesn't illicit an immune response. It can bind to and neutralize viruses, bacteria, bacterial toxins, environmental toxins, environmental particles to render those toxins ineffective without stimulating your immune system.
- The expression of IgA is dependant on a healthy microbiome.
- When your body doesn't have enough IgA, it creates IgE. IgE drives a hyper-sensitivity reaction. It activates eosinophils and basophils and up-regulate your immune response.
- Microbiome up-regulates t-reg (t-regulatory) cells. They regulate unfavorable immune responses throughout your body. Expression is dependant on a good, healthy, microbiome.
- Butyrate (a short-chain fatty acid) reduces the oxygen environment of the gut. This benefits keystone anerobic bacteria in the gut.
- Butyrate is produced from fiber.
- Lactic acid produced from lactic acid producing bacteria is a key component of acidifying the gut and is converted into short-chain fatty acids. This is good for the beneficial bacteria in the gut, and helps reduce bad bacteria in the gut.
- Oligosaccharides are so critical in enhancing the diversity of the gut microbiome and supporting keystone species.
