Histograms
A histogram is a useful graph for quantitative data (we call these bar graphs for qualitative data).
- Relative Frequency
- Number of items in each class / total.
- The proportion/likelihood that each item falls in a certain class.
- Frequency
- Number of items in each class.
Histogram Shapes
- Uniform
- The Y-values are equal across the X-values.
- Bell-Shaped
- The graph peaks in the center and each end fades off.
- Bimodal
- Two symmetrical equal humps on either end.
-
- U-Shape
- The lowest and highest X-values are also the Y-values highest values.
- Positively Skewed Distributions Right Skewed Describes the direction of the tail
- Graph starts high and ends low.
- Negatively Skewed Distributions Left Skewed Describes the direction of the tail
- Graph starts low and ends high.
